Board Member

Joe Allen, a retired and experienced Senior Executive with a deep commitment to his community, joined General Electric (GE) in 1989 as part of the company’s Financial Management Program. Over the course of his 35-year career with GE, Joe held progressively responsible financial and operational leadership positions across various GE businesses, regions, and countries.

A strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, Joe served as the Global Operating Leader for GE’s African American Employee Resource Group. In this role, he spearheaded the establishment of the African Affinity Forum on the African continent, with offices in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana.

Furthermore, Joe collaborated closely with the GE Foundation and the University of Cincinnati to develop and lead GE’s Next Engineers Program. This program aims to inspire the next generation of change-makers by introducing more underrepresented students to the engineering field and fostering their diverse perspectives, visions, and experiences in addressing significant challenges such as climate change, healthcare, and aerospace.

Driven by a commitment to action and a passion for disrupting conventional norms, Joe remains dedicated to developing a diverse and inspired leadership workforce. He actively engages in serving the greater Cincinnati community, currently serving as a board member of Accelerate Great Schools, a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding the availability of high-quality education opportunities for all children in Cincinnati.

Beyond Cincinnati, Joe and his wife, Mary, have dedicated their lives to serving nonprofits and communities across their various residences. They continue to honor their friend with the sponsorship of the Colman Domingo Award, presented annually by NYC’s The Vineyard Theatre to a multi-faceted Black male or male-identifying theater artist. This award provides support and resources to foster the creation of innovative theatrical works.

Joe, a Washington, D.C. native, earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Villanova University, where he met Mary. They now live in the Cincinnati area.
